When you look to the West look for Prime West
2069 North Main Street
Cedar City, Utah 84721
Like pulling a fading photograph from an old shoe box Cedar City can be a step back, to a simpler place and a simpler time. Like much of the West, Southern Utah has a rich tradition in livestock, agriculture, and mining. Settling Iron County, establishing first the town of Parowan, and then Cedar City called for people that were ready to endure hard work, long hours, and willing to risk it all. A man's word was his bond and a handshake was better than anything on paper. Neighbors looked after each other and were always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Today, we celebrate a part of the Pioneer tradition with The Cedar City Livestock and Heritage Festival. Cowboy poetry, western music, a stock dog exhibition, antique tractors, dutch oven cooking, and a parade with over a thousand sheep herded down Main Street. One of the signature events in the Festival City.
The townsfolk in Cedar City hold on to the traditions of the Old West but always with an eye to the future. Livestock, agriculture, and mining still play an important role in the economic life of Iron County. Along with those traditional roles Cedar City is becoming a diverse and growing community in the areas of education, manufacturing, and recreation. Southern Utah University hosts an enrollment of over 6,000 students providing a well educated labor force. Cedar City's Port 15 Industrial Park, provides the only location between the Wasatch Front and Las Vegas with access to both rail and Interstate Highway 15 transportation corridors, for an efficient and economical operation. The recreation and tourism industries draw millions from all over the globe while still providing nearly limitless opportunities for the local residents.
We honor and take a great pride in the pioneering spirit of the past. But far from fading like the treasured old photograph Cedar City is on the way to a bright and vibrant future. Although, not everything has changed. Many of those traditional values, honesty, a willingness to work hard, and the volunteering spirit of the pioneers survive today.
